The EU Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence: an opportunity or a potential tick box exercise?

ENNHRI’s Business and Human Rights Working Group has issued a statement in reaction to the proposed EU Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence (CSDD).

It highlights the many positive elements included in the draft Directive, but also raises points of criticism and deviation from internationally recognised human rights standards.

ENNHRI welcomes the European Commission’s proposal on companies’ mandatory human rights due diligence and acknowledges the potential for positive impact. On the other hand, a major risk that remains is that the duty to perform due diligence becomes a ‘tick-box exercise’.

This statement is an initiative of ENNHRI’s Business and Human Rights Working Group.
