National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) report facing a major barrier: national authorities not fully understanding their mandate, role, or the international standards that protect their functioning. This lack of awareness is limiting cooperation and impacting the core work of NHRIs – promoting and protecting human rights.
To tackle this, ENNHRI has developed guidance for NHRIs on communicating their role, mandate and the environment they need to thrive to national authorities.
Based on member input, it features adaptable key messages and real-life examples. It is designed for use by different NHRI staff in a range of situations. From meetings with ministers to public outreach and polishing a speech, the information is adaptable to different contexts and stations, and can be combined as NHRIs see fit.
The guidance above is also available to read and download as a document.
