ENNHRI Chair’s letter to support FRA’s new Multi-Annual Framework
In a letter sent on 7 October, ENNHRI’s Chair calls on the members of the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament to support the adoption of a new Multiannual Framework that provides a sound basis for the EU’s Fundamental Rights Agency to address pressing human rights issues in the EU and reflects the needs on the ground, as identified by ENNHRI’s member NHRIs. This includes, among others, activities which allow FRA to deal with the area of judicial and police cooperation as well as issues related to social inclusion.
ENNHRI, including all National Human Rights Institutions in the EU Member States, value FRA as a key partner in their work to promote and protect human rights across the EU. It is therefore essential that FRA has a sufficiently wide mandate to perform this function effectively and provide expert opinions and research on fundamental rights throughout the entire spectrum of EU competence.
The Council of the European Union’s Working Party on Fundamental Rights, Citizens Rights and Free Movement of Persons (FREMP) will review the letter.
