Call for research proposals: The role of NHRIs in promoting and protecting economic and social rights

The organisers of this year’s NHRI Academy invite interested researchers to provide a proposal for a research paper on the role of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) in promoting and protecting economic and social rights.

The week-long NHRI Academy is a flagship event of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and ENNHRI, held this year on 3-7 June in Venice, Italy, with the support of the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC).

It focuses on the unique role of NHRIs when promoting and protecting human rights in the OSCE region, providing participating NHRI staff with a set of tailored capacity strengthening workshops and practical trainings.

Interested researchers are invited to submit a proposal for a research paper linked to the following theme, which will be addressed during the NHRI Academy: Stepping up efforts to effectively promote and protect economic and social rights in Europe: The role of NHRIs.

The author of the selected proposal will be invited to participate in the 2019 NHRI Academy to present and discuss her/his research with around 25 staff from NHRIs around Europe that participate to the Academy.

The paper will be publicised via organisers’ communication channels and published in the European Yearbook on Human Rights (following a peer review). The recommendations of the article will also be considered by NHRIs, ENNHRI, ODIHR and EIUC in their future work.

Proposals are due by 15 February 2019. For more information, download the call for proposals.
