Applications now open for 2019 Human Rights Prize of the French Republic, open to all nationalities

The 2019 ‘Liberty, Equality, Fraternity’ Human Rights Prize of the French Republic acknowledges the work of individuals and civil society organisations in protecting and promoting human rights. It is open to applicants in France or abroad, regardless of nationality. Deadline for submissions is 14 October 2019.

The Prize was established in 1988 under the leadership of the Commission nationale consultative des droits de l’homme (CNCDH), the National Human Rights Institution of France. Each year, the award focuses on one or two themes chosen by the CNCDH.

Applications should include a field initiative or project to be implemented in France or abroad. This year, they can be submitted in one of two categories:

Young Human Rights Defenders

Within the framework of the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the CNCDH has decided to honour Human Rights Defenders under the age of 18, working individually or collectively to promote and defend human rights.

The duty of brotherhood

With this theme, the CNCDH wishes to reward the principle of brotherhood, which means acting with solidarity, respect for others, tolerance and goodwill through projects that aim to address humanitarian needs and providing relief and assistance to people in need, whoever they are, particularly by extending unconditional welcome.

Five laureates of the Prize will be invited to Paris for the official ceremony. They will receive a medal and share € 70,000 allocated by the CNCDH for the implementation of the projects.
