Other international mechanisms

In addition to reporting on the status of judgment execution to the Committee of Ministers, NHRIs may also report on this matter in their shadow reports to other international institutions, including UN Special Procedures, the UPR and UN Treaty Bodies.
NHRIs have been progressively integrated in the procedures of international human rights fora, with accreditation determining their level of participation. A-status NHRIs have specific participation rights in UN processes and mechanisms. For example, they have speaking rights immediately following their respective state in the Human Rights Council, for the Universal Periodic Review, and before some Treaty Bodies.
For more information about NHRIs’ engagement with UN mechanisms, see GANHRI’s dedicated webpage here.
