Webinar series

ENNHRI-01
European Implementation Network
Council of Europe

The European Network of National Human Rights Institutions, the European Implementation Network and the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the Council of Europe are joining forces to deliver a series of webinars on the implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). Tailored for the experience and needs of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), the webinars aim to inform and train NHRI representatives about the importance of implementation work and the ways to mainstream it across their organisations, to help improve the overall human rights situation in Europe.

Why should implementation of ECtHR judgments matter to NHRIs?

10th September 2020, 11.00-12.00 CET

During this opening webinar, participants will be able to learn about:

  • The scale of the non-implementation challenge and the need for greater involvement by NHRIs
  • The involvement of NHRIs so far in the ECtHR judgment execution process at the Strasbourg level
  • A best practice story from one of their colleagues on how they used their mandate to advocate for ECtHR judgment implementation.

How can NHRIs take part in the judgment implementation process?

17th September 2020, 11.00-12.00 CET

Participants will learn more about:

  • The basics of the Committee of Ministers execution process and what are the important elements to keep in mind when engaging into it
  • What they can do domestically to push for enhanced awareness of the importance of judgments’ implementation.

Towards an effective domestic advocacy strategy

8th October 2020, 11.00-12.00 CET

Participants will be able to build up upon what they learned at webinar 2 and discuss the ways in which they can use the implementation of ECHR judgments to achieve concrete progress on human rights at the national level. Best practices will be used to illustrate:

  • What advocacy avenues might be available to NHRIs to work on ECtHR judgment implementation at a domestic level
  • How they can hold the government to account about their overall record on implementation.
