NHRI Academy 2016: Registration now closed

NHRI Academy now open @ENNHRI

Registration is now closed for the 2016 NHRI Academy. This year’s academy will take place in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 30 May to 3 June 2016. The event is convened by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) and organized jointly with ENNHRI, in co-operation with the Office of the Public Defender of Georgia.

The Academy will provide practical training for NHRI staff and will also create an environment for sharing good practice between peers. It will include topics related to the independence of NHRIs, effective co-operation with civil society organizations, torture prevention and human rights protection in countering terrorism. Participants will also have the opportunity to gain additional knowledge and skills in human rights monitoring.

The topics for the NHRI Academy 2016 will include:

  • Paris Principles – pluralism
  • Cooperation with civil society organisations – including human rights defenders
  • Monitoring of human rights – focus on the human rights monitoring cycle and the development of indicators
  • Torture prevention and NPMs (National Preventive Mechanisms)
  • Counter-terrorism – an introduction to human rights implications

The 2016 NHRI Academy will also include:

  • An overview of the work of OSCE/ODIHR and ENNHRI;
  • Exchange of good practice and information from participating NHRIs;
  • Networking opportunities, including cultural events; and
  • Support for feeding back information to colleagues at the home NHRIs.
