The 2016 NHRI Academy aims to provide practical training to senior and mid-level staff of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) on how to address particular challenges and opportunities that NHRIs face in their work, so they can fulfil their role of promoting and protecting human rights more effectively. The NHRI Academy will also be a platform for sharing good practice between peers, and to establish a common understanding for joint work and interventions by NHRIs.

Priority areas for the 2016 NHRI Academy follow on key recommendations of the Human Dimension Seminar on the role of National Human Rights Institutions in promoting and protecting human rights in the OSCE area, held in Warsaw in June 2015.

The Academy topics will include issues related to the independence of NHRIs, effective co-operation with civil society organizations, torture prevention and human rights protection in countering terrorism. In addition participants will have the opportunity to gain additional knowledge and skills in monitoring human rights.
