ENNHRI Meeting on The Role of NHRIs in the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Areas Outside of State Control

Note: Attendance of this event is by invitation only.

This Meeting is organised as part of ENNHRI’s Human Rights and Conflict Project and kindly hosted by the Public Defender Office of Georgia (Georgia NHRI).

The Objectives of the Meeting are to:

  • Explore the role of NHRIs to promote and protect human rights in areas outside of state control, and build a common understanding among NHRIs and key stakeholders;
  • Identify, where possible, joint actions to support NHRIs role to promote and protect human rights in areas outside of state control.

Approach:

For a full compliance with the Paris Principles, several European NHRIs have called ENNHRI to provide support in defining what their role should be in the promotion and protect of human rights in areas outside of state control. Furthermore, such request comes also in the context of limited or no accessibility of NHRIs to these areas and/or facing serious difficulties to fully fulfil their mandate of human rights promotion and protection for all under its jurisdiction.

The Meeting will gather relevant European NHRIs, ENNHRI members, together with state actors (one representative/ country) and civil society organisations (one representative/ country) and key international stakeholders (e.g. CoE, UN agencies, ODIHR, EU, etc).

The working language of the Meeting will be English only. ENNHRI can fully support the participation costs (e.g. accommodation, flights, meals) for only one representative per NHRI. Given the importance of the topic under discussion, senior members/staff of NHRIs are invited to participate in the meeting.
